In 2020 I graduated from Durham University with a degree in English Literature (2:1 – 69.5%), tailoring my learning towards critical theory and the 20th century. My research interests included gender and sexuality, intersectionality, neoliberalism, race, class, and nationhood. This critical knowledge has been invaluable to understanding and synthesising information, particularly current affairs.  

My first-class dissertation, entitled ‘Subversions of Sexuality in the Novels of Angela Carter’, deconstructed popular myths of femininity present in second-wave feminism. In doing so, I examined Carter’s (highly problematic) approach to transgender rights, the hypersexualisation of black women and biological essentialism. 

I also took elective modules in Art History, studying Modern Art and Belle Époque France, as well as conducting a work placement at Allenheads Contemporary Arts.

Outside of academia, my energy has gone into marketing, arts development and project management.

In 2019 I co-founded and became Creative Director of MEDUSA, a digital feminist project that explores the arts and inequality. We publish new content regularly and support early-career writers and creatives through peer-led educational seminars, writing development and social media opportunities. We also recently completed a commission for Durham University, facilitating students’ creative practice.

I’ve also been involved with organisations such as Amnesty International and ECO DU, spearheading campaigns and delivering events.

When I’m not editing submissions for MEDUSA, or co-ordinating arts showcases, you’ll find me working as a Digital Marketing Administrator at Concise Digital, a small digital marketing agency based in Oxfordshire. There I work on client accounts and across the two Concise brands, delivering content strategy, social media management and copywriting.
