From 2018 – 2020, I sat on Durham University Amnesty International‘s Executive Committee, both as Campaigns Officer (2018/19) and Publicity Officer (2019/20). As the most experienced member of the Executive Committee in my final year, I closely supported the President, whilst maintaining the flexibility to run other projects alongside Amnesty.
Social Media Management
Responsible for DUAI’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, including visual content creation. Grew DUAI’s Facebook page by 35%.
Responded to queries, requests for collaborations and information via DM, signposting users to the correct people and resources.
Wrote statements on human rights issues including bullying allegations at Durham University, Black Lives Matter, and the imprisonment of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe
Jamnesty (2018 & 2019)
Co-ordinated and compèred live music fundraisers, raising over £200 for Amnesty International on both occasions.
Liaised with venue, performers and sponsors to ensure effective marketing, smooth set up and delivery.
Campaigns and Petitions
Spoke on behalf of Amnesty International at events including Durham University’s ‘Reclaim the Night’ event on International Women’s Day.
Durham University Climate Strike (November 2019)
Held in collaboration with ECO DU, a student think tank and campaigns group.
Coordinated the largest student action of its kind in Durham, with over 400 students and 18 societies calling for Durham University to change its policies in line with the climate emergency.
Managed the strike’s publicity, with my graphics and Facebook event seen by over 24,000 people.
